Lansing, MICH (Friday, Aug. 24) - The Lansing Board of Water & Light has shut off water to 13 customers on W. Mt. Hope Ave. between Pattengill Ave. and S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. after a non-BWL contract crew damaged a water main. The break occurred on the 1200 block of W. Mt. Hope Ave. Crews are expected to complete repairs by Saturday morning.

When the main is repaired, water for the 13 impacted customers should be brought to a boil and continuously boiled for three minutes before use, or use bottled water, until further notice. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

“We know this is an inconvenience for our customers, but we want to take every precaution to ensure we’re delivering safe water. That’s why we’re going door-to-door and handing out bottled water to those impacted,” said BWL General Manager Dick Peffley. “Customers should know our crews are working as quickly as possible to return full service to everyone.”

The BWL will continue to conduct water quality testing throughout the weekend. Further details will be shared after test results are received on Monday. The BWL regrets any inconvenience to customers.

Customers can report water main breaks or clarity issues to 517-702-6490.
