Demolition of the Scott Center House begins today, Monday, March 13 and will continue through the week. The Scott Center House was prepared for demolition with asbestos abatement activities and the salvaging of interior items which were donated to Habitat for Humanity.

The BWL was prepared to pay up to $100,000 to move the house to a qualified bidder following three Requests for Proposals issued by the City of Lansing, which owns the house. Attempts to find a qualified bidder were not successful.

The Scott Center House and surrounding vegetation must be removed in order to make room for the $26 million Central Substation, which will provide reliable power to the downtown Lansing area. Nine alternative sites were looked at but the Scott Park site was deemed the best location for the substation because of its proximity to underground circuits that serve downtown Lansing.

Following three public design charettes for exterior wall design suggestions from the community, the BWL is expected to announce the final design in late spring/early summer. Design plans that will move the Sunken Garden a few hundred feet to the southwest along with additional park and recreation amenities and improvements to Scott Park continue to be in development.
