School Electric
Safety Program
BWL electric safety programs available to service area elementary
schools
The Board of Water and Light has
been providing educational services for elementary schools
in our service area since 1986. Last year, the BWL made more
than 121 presentations to over 3,600 school kids.
The safety programs are scheduled on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays during December, January and February.
The presentations are appropriate for small groups, approximately
35 students at a time. Each program takes about an hour.
Once our BWL representatives have set up equipment
for a presentation at a school, they are happy to accommodate
as many classes as possible during that school day. Two programs
are offered, one for 2nd graders and one for 4th and 5th graders.
Both programs are FREE of CHARGE.

THE
SHOCKING TRUTH FOR GRADES 4 AND 5
The Shocking Truth Program begins with a 20 minute video geared
to older children. The video does an excellent job of explaining
electric safety hazards to students, including concepts such
as grounding.
Following the video, our BWL electric safety
professional reinforces the electric safety messages identified
in the video. He or she will use an energized high line hazard
model to demonstrate potential electric hazards in our daily
environment. Each student will receive a copy of the Shocking
Truth About Electric Safety activity book.
