Conservation Tips for Steam

Check Steam Traps:
A trap that's leaking steam can cost hundreds of dollars in energy each year. Inspect the traps every fall before the beginning of the heating season.

Inspect Automatic Control Values:
Periodically inspect and listen to the automatic steam control valves for a leakage when the valve is closed.

Insulate Pipes:
Insulate the steam and hot water pipes. It will eliminate unwanted waste of heat and energy dollars.

Track Energy:
Keep track of how much energy you normally use under varying conditions. When the usage doesn't fit the condition, something may be malfunctioning.
