If you’re a BWL water customer, you should have received a copy of our newest Water Quality Report, which was mailed with your June bill. This report summarizes the quality of the drinking water provided to you during the past year. It contains a lot of information, but the bottom line is that your drinking water from the BWL continues to meet or exceed all quality standards issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Our water quality report includes information about where your drinking water comes from (deep wells drilled some 400 feet into the earth’s surface) and things we’re doing to protect our drinking water source, a large aquifer called the Saginaw Formation, which underlies much of mid-Michigan. The report also includes information about every regulated substance detected in your drinking water, even in the smallest traces.
If you missed our Water
Quality Report, or would like another copy, call our Communications Division at
702-6679 and we’ll be happy to send you one. You can also

Four years ago, Corey Patterson patrolled the centerfield grass right here at Oldsmobile Park on his way to major league superstardom. The 2003 season has brought another star centerfielder to Lansing, as Felix Pie has developed into one of the most exciting players in the Midwest League. Pie, just 18, was the 2002 Arizona League co-MVP and recently took part in the 2003 RadioShack All-Star Futures Game in Chicago, a game that showcases the top minor league players. Felix was the only “A” player selected for the game.
Pie’s success in the first half helped the Lugnuts earn a playoff
berth, qualifying as the Midwest League first half wild-card team. The Luggies
had the most successful first half of any previous Lugnuts team and finished
just a half game
behind Fort Wayne for the division championship. The Lugnuts will host Game 2 of
the Midwest League Quarterfinals Thursday, September 4, so be sure to

If Michigan’s hot summer weather is beating down your resistance to putting in an air conditioner or dehumidifier, here are a few things to think about.
Air conditioners that have earned the Energy Star label use at least 10 percent less energy than conventional models. Also make sure you buy the right size air conditioner for the space you want to cool. To visit the Energy Star Web site for information about which unit best meets your needs, click here. Energy Star dehumidifiers also operate at least 10 percent more efficiently than standard models. Dehumidifiers help remove excess moisture from basements and other damp areas of your home. An Energy Star dehumidifier can save you hundreds of dollars over its average 12-year lifetime. The Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) and Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council (Mid-MEAC) are promoting the use of Energy Star products in Michigan. SBAM’s Web site features a store locater that can help consumers identify the closest retail source for Energy Star products. Click here to visit them on the Web. For more information about Energy Star, contact Mid-MEAC at 485-9001.
