Adopt A RiverÔ enhances the quality of life we all share in Greater Lansing by encouraging citizens to participate in beautifying our rivers and riverbanks in ways consistent with sound environmental practices. As in past years, our April 26 cleanup will begin and end along the Grand River at the Shiawassee Street Bridge in downtown Lansing. We start with registration at 8 a.m. and spend two to three hours cleaning up along the Grand and Red Cedar rivers, then return to the registration area to enjoy a free picnic lunch. |

One lightning strike or electrical surge could destroy your major appliances and your sensitive electronic equipment. You can avoid that nightmare with SurgeSentinelÔ from the Board of Water & Light. SurgeSentinelÔ is a new whole-house surge protection program that keeps unwanted power surges from damaging or destroying sensitive equipment. The program offers two levels of protection. An external, whole-house surge protector installed on your meter (Level 1) protects all electro-mechanical devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners and stoves. Level 2 also protects sensitive electronic equipment such as stereos, computers, VCRs and DVD players from damage. SurgeSentinelÔ is available to residential customers who own their own homes. For more information, click here or call us at 702-6006. |
Ingham Conservation District is working on some exciting new elements for our river cleanups, including tree planting and water quality monitoring. The April 26 cleanup will also feature environmental exhibits including an earth tunnel and a water tunnel that educate children and adults about wildlife habitat and sound conservation practices. See you along the riverbank Saturday, April 26.

Believe it or not, Lugnuts baseball is right around the corner. Opening day is April 3 and the Lansing Lugnuts 2003 season has plenty to offer everyone, from the biggest of baseball fans to those who have never been to a game. As a special bonus to BWL customers, the Lugnuts are offering you the chance to buy tickets to individual games before the general public. To cash in on this offer, just stop by Oldsmobile Park between March 10 and March 14 and show them this issue of Connections. Or, you can call the Lugnuts ticket office at 485-4500 to order and give them the last three digits of your BWL account number. As an added incentive, each ticket purchased with your Connections newsletter between March 10 and 14 will enter your name in a drawing to win one of five autographed baseballs, or the grand prize: a night for four in the Owners Suite! Prizes will be awarded in April. If you have any questions, please contact the Lugnuts at the above number. The 2003 season promises to be another great one, so order your tickets early to ensure you’ll get to enjoy the biggest nights at Oldsmobile Park.
