Eligible schools for the 1st S.T.E.P. 2011/2012 program year are:
- Lansing Eastern High School
- Lansing Everett High School
- Lansing Sexton High School
- Waverly High School
1st S.T.E.P. stands for 1st School to Training & Employment Program. This paid work-based learning and scholarship program is targeted at High School Seniors and provides an opportunity for them to, if selected, receive a "paid internship/co-op" in Michigan's largest public utility company.
Selected high school seniors will gain:
- Valuable work/job preparation skills
- Technical training that supplements their classroom development
- "Real-world" job experience in a utility/industrial setting
- A $1,500.00 scholarship to attend Lansing Community College (LCC) upon successful completion of the program
Program Steps:
1. High School senior, attending a local Lansing area eligible school
2. Complete the 1st S.T.E.P. application and essay
3. Develop a working portfolio
4. Complete the BWL interview/tour
5. Drug test and background check for employment required
