BWL Hometown Energy SaversSM

The Lansing Board of Water & Light provides energy-savings programs designed to help our residential and business electric customers lower their energy use and save money.


Residential Energy Solutions

  • High Efficiency HVAC Systems and ENERGY STAR® Dehumidifiers
    When updating your home’s heating or cooling, consider selecting high-efficiency equipment. Cash incentives are available for qualifying central air-conditioning units, gas furnaces with ECM motors and ENERGY STAR room air-conditioners and dehumidifiers. Click below for details.
  • FREE CFL Kits
    In 2010, the BWL is offering FREE Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFL's) to residential electric customers. Each CFL Kit includes 4 efficient bulbs. Supplies are limited so request them while they last! Click here to request your CFL Kit.
  • CFL Recycling Sites
    Customers can conveniently dispose of burnt-out CFL bulbs at 20 area locations. Turning in old CFL bulbs for proper recycling is good for the environment. Click below for CFL recycling information and participating sites.

  • Refrigerator / Freezer Recycling
    If you are a BWL electric customer with an older working refrigerator or freezer (in your garage or basement, for example), you can take advantage of this program. We'll come pick it up for FREE. You'll get a $30 check, and we’ll recycle it an environmentally proper way. Click below for more information or to schedule a pick-up.

      BWL is a proud partner with Energy Star®Energy Star.

      Energy Star® is a federally supported program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.

 

  • Services for Residents with limited incomes
    Working through the Capital Area Community Services (CACS) Weatherization Program, the BWL provides qualified replacement ENERGY STAR products such as refrigerators, room air conditioners, dehumidifiers and CFL’s for eligible customers. Call CACS directly at 517-393-7077 to apply for this free program.


Business Energy Solutions

Commercial and industrial customers can receive technical assistance and financial incentives that help buy-down the cost of implementing energy efficiency projects.

  • Commercial & Industrial Prescriptive Incentives
    The Prescriptive Program provides incentives when replacing inefficient equipment with high-efficiency electric technologies on a one-for-one basis.

  • Commercial & Industrial Custom Incentives
    The Custom Program provides financial assistance to customers who wish to make qualified, pre-approved improvements outside the parameters of the Prescriptive Program.

    Participating Trade Allies have been provided with an orientation on the Hometown Energy Savers C&I program and they have agreed to comply with the program's guidelines. The BWL does not endorse any particular Trade Ally or their products within these programs.
