J. Peter Lark, Mayor Bernero to announce
Earth-friendly poster winners
Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager J. Peter Lark will join Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero on Saturday to announce the winners of Adopt A River's first Earth-friendly poster competition.
More than 200 Lansing-area schoolchildren entered the contest, which was organized by the Lansing Board of Water & Light and Impression 5 Science Center.
Lark, Bernero and I-5 Executive Director Erik Larson will announce the winners at approximately 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 26 at the science center. The announcement will cap a day of activities surrounding Adopt A River day, which brings hundreds of volunteers to downtown Lansing to clean and beautify the banks of the Grand and Red Cedar rivers.
“Adopt A River has grown and evolved since the BWL created the program in 1994,” Lark said. “This poster contest gives kids a chance to use their creativity to present positive messages about our environment. We are pleased to partner with the City of Lansing and Impression 5 in this new endeavor.”
One winning poster will be chosen from each grade, Kindergarten through fifth, and a Grand Prize winner will be chosen among all of the entries. The Grand Prize-winning poster becomes the official Adopt A River poster for a year. All poster winners are expected to attend the event.
Also during Adopt A River day, Lark and Mayor Bernero will use the BWL's all-electric vehicle to hand out supplies to volunteers working along Lansing 's River Trail.
For more information about the poster contest, please contact Erik Larson at Impression 5 Science Center, (517) 485-8116, extension 43.
