19,000 BWL customers without power due to Saturday’s storm
Lansing Board of Water & Light officials today said the late Saturday storm that swept through Greater Lansing knocked out electrical power to about 19,000 customers.
The outages are widespread and are due a number of storm-related factors, including tree limbs on wires, downed wires and lightning strikes.
BWL crews are working around the clock to restore power to affected homes and businesses. However, it may be Monday night before power is restored to all customers.
All “critical need” customers such as nursing homes are considered top priority for power restoration. All of these “critical need” customers have had their electrical power restored.
The storm created one of the largest single outages in recent years for the BWL and its customers. The 19,000 customers without power constitute approximately 20 percent of the BWL’s 97,000 electricity customers.
The BWL is Michigan’s largest publicly owned utility.
