*UPDATE*
Power restored to most BWL customers;
fewer than 300 without electricity
Lansing Board of Water & Light officials early today said power has been restored to all but 275 BWL customers following a weekend tornado and other storms.
The estimated time for power restoration for all BWL customers is late today. Because storm damage and power outages were widespread throughout Greater Lansing, the BWL asks its customers to assist in ensuring all power is restored. If a customer does not have power restored by noon today, please call the BWL's toll-free number, 1-877-BWL-5001.
The outages are caused by trees and tree limbs that have fallen on power lines. Those lines directly serve residences. It takes repair crews longer to restore power in these cases. The storms created several hundred such instances.
BWL officials ask for continued patience from customers as the utility makes headway in restoring electrical service.
The BWL has contracted with private firms to acquire seven crews to assist the BWL in restoring power. Additionally, three crews from other public utilities in Michigan are assisting. The peak outage affected more than 19,000 BWL customers, making it one of the worst power outages in BWL's 123-year history.
Customers can report a downed power line by calling 371-6314 or 371-6000. Residents are warned not to go near downed power lines.
