Michigan's state tree will sparkle with 5,000 energy-saving lights donated by BWL, Granger
Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager J. Peter Lark will take part in the tree-lighting ceremony during Friday’s Silver Bells in the City – an event that will have a decidedly “green” touch this year.
Lark announced this week that, in partnership with Granger, the two companies have donated 5,000 energy-efficient lights to adorn the State of Michigan’s official Christmas Tree on the Capitol lawn.
“Energy efficiency is in the vanguard of the Green Energy revolution,” Lark said. “These Light Emitting Diode bulbs use 85 percent less electricity and last up to 60,000 hours. These tree lights will mean true savings for the State of Michigan, and will reduce greenhouse gases in the process.”
The BWL has also begun a pilot program to test LED streetlights, Lark said. “LEDs are the future of lighting, as much if not more than compact fluorescent light bulbs. The BWL is determined to remain Michigan’s leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Our holiday gift to the state is one symbol of that commitment.”
