The Lansing Board of Water & Light will host state utilities and businesses that are
making Michigan more energy efficient during an Energy Optimization Trade Fair on
July 23 in Lansing.
The trade fair is one of several being hosted by Michigan utilities, as they implement
energy-efficiency programs mandated by new state law.
“As the first utility in Michigan to get an Energy Optimization program up and
running, we are pleased to host this trade fair,” said BWL General Manager J. Peter Lark.
“This is an opportunity for our utility, and others, to interact directly with those
companies on the frontlines of Energy Optimization – making energy savings possible in
thousands of Michigan homes and businesses.”
The BWL is hosting the trade fair in collaboration with the Michigan Public Service
Commission. Information on the trade fair is as follows:

The BWL’s Energy Optimization program, Hometown Energy Saverssm, is a
multi-faceted approach to assisting BWL customers achieve greater energy efficiencies in
their homes and places of work.
One example: The BWL will haul away inefficient refrigerators and freezers, free of
charge, and will deliver a $30 check to each customer participating in this appliance turn-in
program. Material from the old appliances are recycled, not landfilled.
The BWL also has incentive programs to assist commercial customers in achieving
