BWL to flush water mains in Waverly-Pleasant Grove area
The Lansing Board of Water & Light is scheduled to flush water mains in the area of Waverly Road and Pleasant Grove Avenue from November 16 through November 30.
Water main flushing is a routine procedure by the BWL to remove accumulated sediment and maintain water quality in the water distribution system. The procedure has no effect on the water’s safety for drinking or other uses.
About 2,000 BWL customers are in the areas where the water main flushing will take place.
The general boundaries of the area to be flushed are:
- Bordered on the north by Mt. Hope Avenue.
- Bordered on the south by Holmes Road.
- Bordered on the east by Pleasant Grove Avenue.
- Bordered on the west by Waverly Road.
Customers may experience fluctuations in water pressure and changes in water clarity during flushing. Water will clear and pressure will return to normal shortly after each day's flushing. The procedure will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Once flushing is finished for the day, customers are advised to run the cold water tap until the water runs clear.
While discolored water is safe to drink, customers may prefer to draw some tap water into a pitcher and refrigerate it the night before. Customers in the affected area can call (517) 702-6490 with questions or concerns.
