BWL shares chili cook-off proceeds with three local
non-profit organizations
Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager J. Peter Lark and BWL Board of Commissioners Chair Sandra Zerkle on Tuesday presented checks totaling $25,000 to three Lansing non-profit groups. The money derived from proceeds from the 14th annual BWL Chili Cook-off, held in June in Lansing’s Adado Riverfront Park.
“Everyone has a great time at our chili cook-off, which continues to be one of the premier events in Lansing each year,” Lark said. “Just as important is the fact that since its inception, the BWL Chili Cook-off has been about giving back to the community. Each year, we select deserving, local non-profit organizations to benefit from chili cook-off proceeds. This is one more way of living up to our motto, whose first words are ‘Hometown People.’ ”
Recipients for 2009 are: HOPE Scholarship Program ($10,000); Impression 5 Science Center ($10,000); and Sparrow Foundation ($5,000).
The BWL Chili Cook-off began in 1995. In 2009, it set a record attendance of nearly 13,000 people.
The 2010 BWL Chili Cook-off is scheduled for June 4 along Lansing’s riverfront in downtown Lansing.
