BWL gives free CFL kits to residential customers
The Lansing Board of Water & Light is providing a brilliant way for residential electric customers to light their home efficiently this winter, by giving them free Compact Fluorescent Light bulb kits.
The CFL kits include four bulbs: Two 13-watt, one 20-watt and one 23-watt bulb. Combined, each kit can save a customer up to $120 on electric bills over the bulbs’ lifetime.
“We encourage you to take advantage of this BWL Hometown Energy Savers® program that is available to help reduce your energy use,” said BWL General Manager J. Peter Lark. “You can’t get a better deal than free, energy-efficient bulbs.”
The ENERGY STAR® listed CFLs uses 75 percent less energy than incandescent light bulbs, and last far longer – up to 10,000 hours compared to 1,000 hours for incandescent bulbs.
Here’s how a BWL residential electric customer can sign up for a free kit:
- Go to http://lansing.efi.org and enter your BWL electric account number and zip code, or call 702-6006 to sign up.
- The CFL kits will be shipped directly to your home.
- There is an annual limit of one kit per household or electric account number.
- The offer is valid for a limited time and while supplies last.
The BWL also offers a way to recycle old CFL bulbs by working with more than 20 area retailers. The retailers accept spent CFLs for recycling. A list of participating retailers and their locations are on the BWL’s website.
The BWL is Michigan’s largest public utility, serving more than 96,000 electric customers.
