BWL donates $16,000 to
four local non-profit organizations
Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager J. Peter
Lark and BWL Board of Commissioners Chair Sandra Zerkle on
Tuesday presented checks totaling $16,000 to four Lansing nonprofit
organizations.
The money derived from proceeds from the 15th annual BWL
Chili Cook-off in June, and the BWL Hometown Power 5K
Run/Walk in August.
“Our BWL Chili Cook-off and our Hometown Power 5K
Run/Walk are fun, exciting events in our community,” said BWL
General Manager J. Peter Lark. “More important, they provide us
with another way to give back to this community, by supporting
good causes that touch the lives of thousands of people in Greater
Lansing.”
At Tuesday’s meeting of the BWL Board of Commissioners,
Lark and Zerkle presented the following checks to non-profit
representatives:
- $5,000 to the Sparrow Foundation.
- $5,000 to Impression Five Science Center
- $3,000 to the Hope Scholarship Program.
- $3,000 to Capital Area Community Services, to support
the BWL’s Pennies for Power program.
Through its annual chili cook-off, the BWL has contributed
tens of thousands of dollars to local non-profit groups. The BWL
Chili Cook-off began in 1995.
The BWL Hometown Power 5K Run/Walk is in its second
year. Nearly 200 people participated in this family-oriented event.
The BWL is Michigan’s largest public utility, currently
celebrating its 125th anniversary.
