The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is scheduled to flush water mains in several areas within the City of Lansing beginning Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, May 30.

The general areas to be flushed are:

  • Willow Rd. and Glenrose St.
  • Hyland St. and Westmoreland St.
  • Dwight St. and James St.
  • Gier Rd. and Creston St.
  • Helen St. and Beech St.
  • Heald Pl. and Bement St.
  • Allen St. and Perkins St.
  • Regent St. and E. Malcolm X St.

About 1,200 BWL customers are in the areas where the water main flushing will take place.

Water main flushing is a routine procedure by the BWL to remove accumulated sediment and maintain water quality in the water distribution system. The procedure has no effect on the water’s safety for drinking or other uses.

Customers may experience fluctuations in water pressure and changes in water clarity during flushing. Water will clear and pressure will return to normal shortly after each day's flushing. The procedure will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Once flushing is finished for the day, customers are advised to run the cold water tap until the water runs clear. While discolored water is safe to drink, customers may prefer to draw some tap water into a pitcher and refrigerate it the night before.

Customers in the affected area can call (517) 702-6490 with questions or concerns.
