BWL Internship Program

The Lansing Board of Water & Light employs a wide range of professions. As a result, we seek to teach and retain excellent future employees to build our workforce through BWL's Internship Program, which provides college students a unique opportunity to develop professional skills and gain experience in their fields of study. Students are paired with a mentor from their department and learn through real projects and work.

Applicable Majors

The following are majors that may be considered for a BWL internship:

  • Accounting
  • Communications
  • Emergency Management
  • Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Construction)
  • Finance
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Legal
  • Safety
  • Security
  • Supply Chain Management

My summer internship gave me an opportunity to directly apply topics I was learning about in class, and I learned more than I could ever have imagined about electric power at the utility scale. The BWL is uniquely positioned to provide many of the same diverse experiences I would have had at a large company, but with the attention and atmosphere of a small company. The work I did was meaningful and helped me a lot later in school. I thoroughly enjoyed what I did and all the people I worked with.
