The BWL offers a free electric safety program called "The Shocking Truth" to 4th and 5th grade students at Lansing-area elementary schools.
The one-hour safety program is scheduled for up to 35 students at a time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in December, January and February. Once BWL representatives are at a school, they are happy to present to more than one classroom.
The program starts with a 20-minute video that explains electric safety hazards to students, including concepts such as grounding.
Following the video, our BWL electric safety professional reinforces the electric safety messages identified in the video. He or she will use an energized high line hazard model to demonstrate potential electric hazards in our daily lives. Each student will receive a copy of the Shocking Truth about Electric Safety activity book.
