Stay Connected with our New Email Communications!
Posted

At BWL, we’re always working to bring Hometown Power to Hometown People, and that includes how we reach you. Coming soon, you’ll begin receiving occasional emails from us with important updates such as emergency notifications, seasonal energy saving tips and resources, and upcoming promotions. They’re designed to help you stay safe, stay prepared and stay connected.
In the next few weeks, you’ll receive our first email asking you to set your email preferences, so you can get notifications that are tailored to you.
As we continue to send communications, it’s also important to recognize a legitimate email. Phishing is a cyberattack where a criminal poses as a trusted person or organization to trick potential victims into sharing sensitive data or sending money. To prevent this happening, below are some common tactics to look out for:
- The sender’s email address or domain is unrecognizable or misspelled – The fastest way to see if an email is fake is by checking the sender’s email address or domain. BWL doesn’t send emails from public domains like Gmail or Yahoo and will never misspell the domain name.
- Subtle misspelled words or unusual language – Unexpected messages like offers or alerts that don’t match the BWL’s other communications or an inconsistent tone can be signs of phishing.
- A sense of urgency in the message – Phishing emails often use language designed to create a sense of urgency or fear. Take a minute to think clearly before taking any action.
- Suspicious links or attachments to the email – Hover over links to preview the URL to see if it looks unusual or if it’s inconsistent with the content message. Never click on suspicious links or attachments.
- Unexpected requests for sensitive information – BWL will never ask you to send any personal, financial or account information. It’s always best to avoid sending any sensitive information over email.
When in doubt, don’t click on the email or simply delete it.
In addition, we’ll also begin sending email communications related to potential bill spikes to help you better manage your energy use and monthly costs.
